Prof. Sara Bagherifard featured among leading women innovators in thermal spray

We are proud to share that our principal investigator, Prof. Sara Bagherifard, is featured in Dr. Aruna’s review “Advancing thermal spray technology: The contributions of women innovators”.

Prof. Bagherifard’s research in solid-state deposition, particularly cold spray coatings and hybrid additive manufacturing, advances structural and functional coatings for critical sectors such as aerospace, materials engineering, and high-performance manufacturing. Her work spans the development of hierarchical, heterogeneous materials (ArcHIDep), exploration of high-entropy alloys, metal-ceramic composites, and polymer substrates, as well as innovative post-processing methods like shot peening and thermal treatments.

We are proud that her contributions are recognized among international leaders in the field, highlighting the impact of her research in both scientific innovation and industrial application.

This past Tuesday, November 11^th, Prof. Sara Bagherifard took part in the “ERC Funding Opportunities” event organized at Politecnico di Milano. The meeting, featuring George Symeonidis from the ERC Executive Agency, provided insights into upcoming ERC Starting and Consolidator Grant calls.

Prof. Bagherifard shared her experience as an ERC grantee, offering valuable advice to researchers preparing future proposals.

Kick-off of Archès Lab’s new ERC-PoC project

Archès Lab’s new ERC Proof-of-concept project on Cold Spray Repair (CoRe) is off to a great start in the month of January, with the kick-off meeting between our technical team and our business and innovation partner, DayOne.

This 18 month project aims to innovate the repair and regeneration of mechanical components using Cold Spray (CS) technology, incorporating analytical models and artificial intelligence. This innovation will significantly reduce post-processing, material waste and delivery times in the manufacturing industry, contributing to sustainability and accessibility in repairs through fully automated tools.

Solid-state additive manufacturing at Politecnico di Torino: PhD course by prof. Bagherifard

Archès Lab’s principal investigator, Prof. Sara Bagherifard, recently delivered a series of lectures at Politecnico di Torino. These lectures were part of a PhD excellence course funded by the doctoral school at Politecnico di Torino and focused on solid-state additive manufacturing and post-processing techniques.

SHE-MECC: Interview to prof. Sara Bagherifard

Native to Iran, Sara has demonstrated exceptional abilities in the field of scientific research for the design, development, and implementation of multifunctional materials for structural applications. Her determination and talent serve as an example for all women aspiring to excel in STEM subjects.

Roberta Falco Awarded Prestigious A.I.D.I.A. Scholarship in Honor of Adele Racheli

In a ceremony at Politecnico di Milano’s Aula Magna, the Italian Association of Women Engineers and Architects (A.I.D.I.A.) presented the Adele Racheli Scholarship. This prestigious award, named after Adele Racheli—a trailblazing engineer and A.I.D.I.A. co-founder—was granted to our team member Roberta Falco.

Adele Racheli, a 1920 graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, left an indelible mark on the engineering landscape. In 1957, she co-founded A.I.D.I.A., championing the cause of women in engineering and architecture. Racheli’s forward-thinking spirit was further embodied through her establishment of the Racheli Patent Office in Milan in 1925.

This represents not only an honor, but also creates a bridge between generations in the engineering and architecture community, paying homage to the visionary women who paved the way for future generations.
